Meet Raquel

Having first been elected to serve as a Member of Parliament in 2019, Raquel’s straightforward and compassionate style of politics has made her an effective and dedicated advocate for her constituents in Kildonan-St. Paul.

Raquel is currently the Shadow Minister for Public Safety in Pierre Poilievre’s Shadow Cabinet, a role in which she was entrusted to remain following the transition of leadership within the Conservative Party. Raquel also serves as the Vice Chair of the Public Safety and National Security Committee, which deals with CSIS, the RCMP, cyber security, Canada’s intelligence service, and the CBSA.

Having grown up in Beausejour, Manitoba, then going on to receive her post-secondary education at McGill University, Raquel has accumulated a vast diversity of experiences which have auspiciously positioned her for the unique and challenging role as Kildonan-St. Paul’s federal representative. Her small-town roots supply her with a unique understanding of rural life, and her time at McGill, where she received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Political Science, has furnished her with an appreciation and understanding of the Canadian political system of which she has long aspired to be a part of. Her ability to advocate for those less heard and implement varying strategies in an efficient and organized manner is what has made Raquel an effective public servant with a deep understanding of the political sphere. Through her passionate spirit, knowledge of the mechanics of government, and first-hand experience serving constituents, Raquel has built a strong reputation as an advocate for Canadians.

During her time as Member of Parliament, Raquel has worked tirelessly on several issues. Her advocacy on behalf of Canada’s legal firearm owners, victims of violent crime, and Canadians across the country who are struggling financially under Trudeau’s government are the initiatives she is most proud of. Raquel remains dedicated to fighting for those who are contending with financial burdens and Canada’s hunters, sport shooters, and other law-abiding firearms owners. She will continue conducting her duties with the transparency, humility, and honesty that Canadians should expect from their representatives.

While serving as the member for Kildonan-St. Paul, Raquel has been thrilled to participate in numerous events hosted by the renowned cultural organizations of which her riding is home to. From experiencing the concerts put on by the Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble, to joining in the opening of Dasmesh School in West St. Paul, Raquel has thoroughly enjoyed the weeks she spends in her constituency.

In her capacity as Shadow Minister for Public Safety, Raquel has met and worked with various police forces and other frontline public safety personnel, such as the Main Street Project and Siloam Mission, who operate within Kildonan-St. Paul and across the country. Through these meetings, Raquel has learned of the needs of those we entrust with our protection, the homeless community, and those working to make our streets cleaner and safer. The issues of reducing crime, supporting police forces and community organizations, and addressing the key drivers of poverty and crime, remain key issues as Raquel continues in her position as Member of Parliament for Kildonan-St. Paul and as Shadow Minister for Public Safety.

Before her election as a Member of Parliament, Raquel worked as a Special Assistant to the Manitoba Government’s Minister of Sport, Culture, and Heritage, and as an Executive Assistant to the Minister of Sustainable Development.

Raquel currently resides in East St. Paul with her husband Scott and their dog Odin.
